Positive Mental Attitude

Positive Self-Talk    By Joe Love

One of the most powerful influences on your attitude and personality is what you say to yourself. It is not what happens to you, but how you respond internally to what happens to you, that determines your thoughts, feelings, and your actions. By controlling your inner dialogue, or your “self talk,” you can begin to assert control over every part of your life.

Your self-talk determines the majority of your emotional life. The words that you use to describe what is happening to you, and how you feel about external events, will trigger the emotions of happiness or unhappiness that you experience. When you see things positively and you look for the good in every situation and in each person, you will become a very positive and optimistic person. Since the quality of your life is determined by how you feel moment to moment, you should make it a habit to only think and talk about what you want and keep your mind off of what you don’t want.

You are constantly faced with challenges, difficulties, and problems every day of your life. They are unavoidable and one of the inevitable parts of being human. But as you draw upon your resources to respond effectively to each challenge, you grow and become a stronger person. When you look back over your life, you’ll see that you are the kind of person that you are because of all the difficulties and problems that you have had to overcome in your life. Without those setbacks, you could not have learned what you needed to know to developed the character and strength that you have at this point in your life.

Much of your ability to succeed comes from the way you deal with life. Having a positive mental attitude is indispensable for success and happiness. It is the key to success in business, and it is vital to building strong relationships with other people. Everyone wants to be around a positive person with a cheerful attitude towards life. But no one wants to be around a negative person who is always pessimistic about everything. Your ability to develop and maintain a positive mental attitude, no matter what the situation may be, will play a critical role in any success you achieve.

One of the best ways to define a positive mental attitude is having “a constructive and positive response to adversity.” It is only when you are confronted with a setback or adversity that you really know if you have a positive attitude or not. Anyone can be positive when things are going well. It is only when things are going against you, that you are able to demonstrate to yourself and others, that you have a positive character and personality.

One of the common characteristics of all high achieving men and women is that they recognize the inevitability of temporary setbacks and disappointments. They accept them as a normal and natural part of their life. They do everything possible to avoid problems, but when they come up, successful people learn from them and rise above them. They continue to move forward towards their goals.

Embracing Change    For many people, one the greatest fears they experience in life is the changes they are faced with when they believe they are not up to the challenge. Especially when the change is sudden and unexpected. Unexpected change, such as losing a job, death of a loved one, a natural disaster, your partner leaving you or a life threatening illness, can leave you feeling frustrated, scared, angry, stuck or even incompetent. And below all of that can be a feeling that you have lost a part of yourself that you will not be able to get back.

Positive Laughter   How many times a day do you find yourself having a good laugh? One, five, ten, thirty times a day? Chances are you don’t have a clue. But now that I’ve posed the question just think about it for a moment and take a guess. I’ve always felt like I’m someone who laughs a lot until I read an article about laughter. It made me think twice and absolutely raised my awareness around my laugh-o-meter!

Positive-Attitude  Recently I was sitting on my living room couch reading, when the howling of the wind and the pelting rain caught my attention. It was quite apparent that the wind and rain were doing their best to make their mark on this day. Although weather like this could have brought on a feeling of gloominess, I found myself filled with a great sense of peace, warmth and oneness with everything around me.

Staying Connected To Positive Attitude    I consider myself a very fortunate human being. I have a wonderful life that is surrounded by a group of loving, supportive family and friends. Some, who are reading this newsletter at this very moment. Along with all the joy I am exposed to everyday, I find myself being given opportunities to practice what I teach even when it feels impossible.  One of the areas I coach people with is helping them manage their energy. In other words, helping them stay connected to the emotions that allow them to feel good, no matter what is being thrown at them from outside circumstances. Is this easy to do? Sometimes and at other times it seems downright impossible. Recently, I was given the gift of being in the place that felt downright impossible.

When You Think You Can   How many times have you heard yourself say I can't, only to find that you really can and you did? It seems whenever we are faced with something that feels like it's beyond our ability we automatically go into the 'I can't do it' syndrome before we even consider the possibility that we really can. Too often we give up on ourselves before we even start having less faith in ourselves than others have in us or we have in others.

How To Be Confident At Any Age   I remember when I was in my early twenties, heck, it was only a few birthdays ago (I'm 26 now). Flashback about five years and I was a fresh out of university nobody with a degree in business management that I just scraped a GPA 4 in (this is equivalent to a pass in Australia, university grades are 1-7, 4 being a pass, 7 being the best). I spent most of my university days lost. Half the time doing what I needed to get through my degree, the other half of the time indulging in whatever hobby took my interest. Throw in some tennis, a handful of casual jobs and lots and lots of glossy-eyed staring at the beautiful girls on campus and you had my life at university.

Still Not Quite Getting It Right   “A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.” (Mark Twain)   “A man should not strive to eliminate his complexes, but to get into accord with them, for they are legitimately what directs his conduct in the world.” (Sigmund Freud)  As is our confidence, so is our capacity.” (William Hazlitt)  “Be yourself and think for yourself; and while your conclusions may not be infallible, they will be nearer right than the conclusions forced upon you.” (Elbert Hubbard)  You are all you really have for sure.

It's the Thought that Counts   EVERYTHING begins with a thought, including EVERYTHING that is in your life today (whether you like it or don't).  You have the ability to outsmart your brain and cause a change in the things, people and circumstances that show up around you.

Mind Technique's   This technique I'm going to explain in this article may be considered pretty radical by some. But before you decide or make a judgment that I could be simple or simply out of My Own Mind, please stay with me for a moment.  Sport Psychology has become extremely important in the sporting world. But don't be misled into thinking that this is only something that's of interest to sports men and women. There are many aspects to sport psychology, and I believe some can assist even the humble online entrepreneur to achieve massive success. The most useful I've found is the idea of 'visualization'.

Your Emotions: Are You Watching Them?  You’ll often hear don Miguel Ruiz, author of “The Four Agreements,” saying that our emotions are the key to our personal freedom. Wise words! You might be asking why our emotions are so important to our freedom. I’ve observed in my many years of teaching, how often folks don’t acknowledge what they’re feeling emotionally. When I ask them how they’re feeling they say, “Things are fine,” or “The usual.” Yet, when you ask them if they got upset or frustrated today, they’ll say, “Well yes, this morning with my husband,” or “When the dishwasher repair man came to the house,” or “When something was not typed correctly my secretary.” So what’s going on here? Why are we ignoring the most important tool that we have for our personal growth?

Your Personal Concentration Strategy   Concentration is the utmost important tool in order to make the greatest success of anything you desire. You need to be able to concentrate your entire focus onto the idea you are developing in order to make it a full success. A successful person is able to fully concentrate on what does work for him and shut out any de-motivating or destructive thoughts.

Affirmations   It is very amusing to me upon meeting new prospective clients or people in general at social events, when topics such as the power of transformation, self improvement or just plain positive mind-setting enter into the conversation, how few people actually fully understand what an affirmation is. I did not know that affirmations were not commonly known, so with that being said…
